Here’s some trivia about some of your favourite stars of the past and present. The old Hollywood magic was often used to mask certain physical defects that our idols possessed but didn’t want us to know about, after all, they were made in heaven weren’t they? no wonder they always look so perfect on the big screen!

Did you know that…

* Ginger Rogers had a facial hair problem. The fair-haired actress’ freckly face ( she was a strawberry blonde ) was covered in a peachy fuzz, not that you’d ever know as it was always airbrushed for publicity stills and her movie scenes. The technicians back in the 30’s and 40’s set the standard for the airbrushing technique that makes our celebrities and super models look so fab in their shots today. You don’t really believe that Posh Spice-Beckham has great skin do you…?

* Ida Lupino was actually as bald as a billard ball. A result of childhood diphtheria apparently - this wonderful actress who starred in films such as High Sierra and They Drive By Night wore wigs in her film roles. She went on to become one of the pioneers of female movie directors.

* Remember the exquisitely sculpted high cheekbones of Marlene Dietrich? they came at a cost as legend Joan Crawford discovered. Both had their back upper teeth extracted in order to give them that hollow-cheeked, high-boned appearance.

* Carmen Miranda, The Brazilian Bombshell,  never wore knickers beneath her fancy costumes in her movies. A studio shot of her being lifted into the air by Caesar Romero revealed much more than it should have when her samba dress flared out around her.

* Back in the Golden Years of Hollywood hairy chests on our male idols were not tolerated. As a result hairy stars such as Jeff Chandler had to shave their chests and backs spending their careers in itchy discomfort.

* More on Jeff Chandler - this handsome hunk from the fifties actually had a penchant for wearing womens clothes around the house…just ask Joan Collins.

* Sylvester Stallone measures five foot six inches…on his tippy toes.

* Dustin Hoffman is three inches shorter

These are just a few of what I have in store…hope I have whetted your appetite for more :)
